There is something that pisses me off about the word ‘potential’. I absolutely don’t believe in ‘potential’ but I am madly, passionately and crazily excited about each and everyone of you discovering your Godtential, let me tell you why!
- I distinctly remember, when I was a teenager, reading a school report where the teacher had written, “Mark has the potential to do well”. From that instant moment I did not like the concept of ‘potential’. Potential is defined as ‘having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future’. Nevertheless that capacity, or potential is based upon two factors:
1) Internal – rising to the challenge within you.
2) External – education, opportunity, money, being at the right place at the right time.
The internal factors I can handle, we have deep within ourselves all the resources required to become the person that we chose to become. It is the concept of these external factors bearing an impact on whether an individual reaches their ‘potential’ or not that bugs me. I don’t agree that a person’s success and life achievements should be dictated by whether they attend the right school, develop the right contacts, whether they have enough money or whether the market forces, during their life time, are advantageous! What utter rubbish!
It is not by accident that you are living at this particular point of time in history. Whether you have realised it yet, or not, you are here for a purpose that is as unique to you as your very finger prints. The moment that you were created your Godtential was instilled within you, it is part of your DNA. Your reason for being was implanted within you, sitting dormant within you waiting for you to connect with it, to become alive, to take hold of it and fulfil the life that you were created to live.
Throughout history there are many people who have connected with their Godtential, the most famous people to do so include Martin Luther King, Richard Branson, Mother Theresa, Walt Disney and Oprah Winfrey. Of course, there are millions of other people whose fulfilment of their Godtential would not result in such world wide fame (because God will never give you more than you can handle and he knows exactly what you are capable of!) – teachers, bus drivers, office works, charity workers, business owners, Mum’s and Dad’s, policeman… and the list goes on. These individuals have discovered, connected with and aligned themselves to their Godtential, the very reason that they were placed on here on Planet Earth.
No external factors can stop you fulfilling your Godtential. Becoming the very person that you were created to be is not dependent upon who you know, the level of cash in your bank account or whether the world has been plunged into an economic crisis (in fact YOU may have been placed on planet Earth at this very moment in time to play a very significant role within this economy!)
The fulfilment of your Godtential is solely based upon connecting with yourself, discovering your reason for existence, creating a strategy for reaching your Godtential and implementing it. So, you are probably asking how you discover your Godtential? I am going to tell you.
The moment you were born, your passions, skills and abilities where placed within you – the activities that you love, the aspects of life and humanity that inflame your passion and make you come alive. You know what your passions are, what you are good at and, if you sit, wait and connect with yourself you will discover that laying under the surface are your latent desires. Because of a lack of self-confidence, fear or anxiety you may be fearful of chasing these aspects of your Godtential, however, they still call you. Whenever you think of these passions you will get a buzz of excitement as every fibre of your being resonates with your Godtential.
You can start to discover your Godtential quite quickly. Go and find yourself some space, grab a pen and a journal and ask your inner self whether you give yourself permission to start an incredible journey of becoming your Godtential, becoming who you were created to be and start to write. It is important that you completely connect with your spirit and body and not simply your mind. Your mind will try to reason with you and tell you all the reasons why you can never fulfil the passions that are bubbling under the surface, your Godtential, ignore it.
As you write ask yourself four key questions:
What do I truly enjoy in life?
I am the happiest that I could ever be when I….
If I could be anything what would I be?
If I could do anything what would I do?
Your list can contain absolutely anything, write down what you love doing, what you love about the world. Your list may include: teaching, working with homeless people, drawing, painting, acting, singing, sailing, adventure. You may be at your happiest when you are with children, when you are by the sea, when you are playing an instrument, anything! Continue through the questions and as you do allow yourself to be you, not the ‘you’ that may be forced upon you by others but find the freedom to explore inner hidden depths of beauty.
As you look at this list you have written understand that God gave you these passions and now, possibly for the first time in a long time, if indeed the first time ever, you are starting to connect with your Godtential. As you look at the answers to your questions circle the top three answers that really get your juices flowing and start to explore them. If you enjoy fishing, teaching and drawing make a mental decision to start to further explore these areas of your life. If you answered ‘a singer’, or a journalist to the question, “If you could be anything what would it be?” Find your local singer teacher and book yourself in for a session or write an article for your local newspaper and just send it in, see what feedback you get. Make a decision that you will progress with the top three answers that you have circled, to each question, decide that you are going to explore them.
Congratulations, you have made an amazing decision that the rest of your life will not be defined by external forces but will wholly be dependent upon the discovery of your Godtential. You have started the most amazing journey to become the very person that you were put on this earth to be – enjoy the journey!

Absolutely 100% spot on. It is so easy to blame external factors for reasons that we don’t achieve what we secretly wish we could – I have no money, no time, I am not like that and the excuses go on. I love the fact that you explain that if we align with our Godtential, irrespective of any ‘lack’ in our life we can achieve some pretty cool stuff. Thank you so much for sharing. Matt
